March 6: Today in Texas History #txhx # RememberTheAlamo

How appropriate that my daily prayer today discusses being fearless.

It was on this day in 1836, the 13-day siege of the Alamo ended.

Led by Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna, the Mexican army of around three thousand men defeated the fearless 189 Texas volunteers.

The slogan "Remember the Alamo!" became a rallying cry for the Texas Revolution and the Alamo a shrine to fallen Texas heroes.

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you … Do not fear. ~ Deuteronomy 31:8

"While the facts surrounding the siege of the Alamo continue to be debated, there is no doubt about what the battle has come to symbolize. People worldwide continue to remember the Alamo as a heroic struggle against impossible odds — a place where men made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For this reason, the Alamo remains hallowed ground and the Shrine of Texas Liberty."

Victory or Death! Remember the Alamo!

"A born Texan has instilled in his system a mind-set of no retreat or no surrender. I wish everyone the world over had the dominating spirit that motivates Texans.” ~ Former Texas Speaker of the House Billy Clayton
